The design of this aerial sculpture’s geometric structure is inspired by the traditional Swedish folk chandelier called “Himmeli,” meaning “heaven.” These geometric forms, typically made from straw, decorated homes during the mid-winter festival to give thanks for the harvest and to bring good fortune for the coming year. Using the same tensegrity technique, the structure has been upscaled and adorned with flowing textiles that dance in the breeze. The piece aims to honor indigenous folk art and knowledge while demonstrating how these traditions can be drawn on and evolved to create new futures, showing that other worlds are possible.
